ASBOA is a non-partisan, member-based professional association that drives excellence in business administration in Alberta’s K-12 education system. ASBOA builds system capacity by providing training events, leadership development, and professional networking opportunities.
In addition to building professional capacity, we act as a liaison to the Government of Alberta to provide technical input on provincial legislation, programs, and other matters that impact students and school jurisdictions’ from a business implementation perspective.
Membership
Our membership consists of professionals who work in diverse roles within the corporate services side of the K-12 public education system in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
Membership in the Association is held by the individual and is not transferable.
The membership year is from September 1st through August 31st of each year.

Membership Categories
Regular Member
A person may be registered as a regular member if they meet the following criteria and have been approved by the Board.
- Is employed by a school jurisdiction as a senior leader with responsibilities in matters related to ASBOA’s areas of practice.
- A senior leader includes individuals at the Director level or above, and within two reporting levels to the Superintendent.
- pays the membership fee.

- Voting rights at the AGM and on other matters as defined in the bylaws (up to 2 votes per jurisdiction)

Associate Member
A person may be registered as an associate member if they meet the following criteria and have been approved by the Board.
- Is employed by a school jurisdiction with managerial or supervisory responsibilities in matters relating to school business;
- Pays the membership fee.
- Member pricing on all ASBOA activities and events
- Eligible to serve on ASBOA committees of the Board
- Full access to the members-only online community full of resources, a member directory
- Receive newsletters and all member communications from the ASBOA office
- Free career postings on ASBOA website
Affiliate Member
A person may be registered as an associate member if they meet the following criteria and have been approved by the Board.
- Is employed by a school jurisdiction in a school business position not defined as a Regular or Associate Member; or
- Is an employee of a private school in Alberta or the Northwest Territories in a senior leadership, management, or supervisory role with responsibilities in the area of practices of school business; or
- Is employed or contracted by the provincial or territorial government in support of school jurisdictions; or
- Is a faculty member of a postsecondary institution in a program of studies related to school business; and,
- Pays the membership fee.

Life Members
A person may be entitled to be registered as a life member if they meet the qualifications outlined in the Schedule.
Honorary Member
A person may be entitled to be registered as an honorary member if he/she meets the qualifications as outlined in the Schedule.
