What do I need to apply for the CSBO designation?
A. Streams for Consideration
There are three streams for consideration. After reviewing all information, please click on the link below for the Stream under which you will apply.

regular member
-
good character and reputation
-
at least one of the following: diploma or degree in business administration, has acquired a CPA or is eligible to write the CPA AB Entrance Exam, Local Government Certificate (2004), or a program that is substantively equivalent

3 years in school administration in Canada

school law and school administration courses (note: as recognized by the Executive, this is currently 24 hours of verifiable professional development in each area)

“if the applicant is registered in good standing with a profession in another jurisdiction that is recognized by the Executive as having substantively equivalent competence and practice requirements”
“if the applicant has a combination of education, practice requirements, examinations and other requirements that in the opinion of the Registration Committee demonstrates the competence required for registration.”

The Registration Committee would look for ten (10) years experience in school business of which at least five (5) years were in a senior position within a school authority (such as a secretary-treasurer) in Canada. Note that the number of years do not represent a definitive requirement, and the application is subject to all considerations.

B. Application Review - Process for Consideration:

Applications will be processed within sixty (60) days, or further information will be requested within thirty (30) days. Timelines may be extended by the Registration Committee under Stream 2 or Stream 3 where research is needed, or further information is requested for consideration: where this is the case, the applicant will be informed.

Once an application is submitted, it will be reviewed by the Registrar. The Registrar will advise the applicant if any information appears missing within 14 days. If information is missing, the applicant will have the choice to withdraw the application and resubmit with the additional information or confirm the application is to be reviewed by the Committee. The Registrar is not able to deny an application.

The application will be considered based on all information provided, including any further information requested by the Registration Committee. The process will be transparent, objective, impartial and procedurally fair, and where there is a conflict by a member of the Committee, the member will not participate in the application process.

A member of the Registration Committee is not able to provide a letter of recommendation unless the member elects to not participate in the application process.
