Posting 2020-01:  Secretary Treasurer, Chief Financial Officer

The School District

The Board of Education is seeking an outstanding leader for the position of Secretary Treasurer/CFO effective September 1, 2020, or a mutually agreeable date.

School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha), representing the communities of Penticton, Summerland, Kaleden, and Naramata, serves the educational needs of approximately 5700 students through 11 elementary (K-5), 3 middle (Gr. 6-8), 3 secondary (Gr. 9-12) schools and 1 DL/Alternate Education school. The District is honoured to operate on the unceded traditional territories of the Syilx People.

Our school district’s relatively small size and proud history of outstanding relationships among employee groups will be attractive to a candidate wishing to provide strategic and accountable leadership in finance and facilities.  Our school district believes the quality of learning experience and extent of student learning is directly related to the quality of service provided to students by school personnel supported by sound district leadership.

The district operating budget for 20/21 is over $60,000,000 and the district employs approximately 950 staff.

The Communities

The communities are nestled on the sides of Skaha and Okanagan Lakes in the heart of wine and fresh fruit country.  Combining the natural beauty and amazing outdoor recreation opportunities associated with the Okanagan lifestyle with an exciting and fulfilling work environment is ideal for those pursuing a healthy balance both professionally and personally.

The Position

The Secretary Treasurer is the Chief Financial Officer and member of the senior executive team.  The Secretary Treasurer is responsible for the financial, legal, facilities and business activities of the District as well as being the corporate secretary to the Board of Education. Departments within the business management team include Finance, Facilities, Information Technology, Payroll and Benefits and Transportation. Fostering effective working relationships within the district and with local government and community organizations is expected in the position.

The Candidate

The Board is seeking a skilled financial leader with school district or public sector experience preferred.  With a transparent and collaborative leadership style, the Secretary-Treasurer will focus on effective education services for students and supporting the district in achieving its strategic goals. The successful candidate will have a proven record of consensus building and clear and effective communication.  The Secretary-Treasurer will possess policy, systems, and planning expertise to assist Okanagan-Skaha Board with complex decision-making in a challenging fiscal environment.
