Eligibility and Application Process - Stream 1- s.8(1)(a)
(i) Member Requirements - Section 8(1)(a)(i)
The online application form in the member area will self populate with the membership information required such as: Membership number; Membership Status; Member Category; School Authority; Year joined.
(ii) Good Character and Reputation Requirements - Section 8(1)(a)(ii)
Letters of Reference:
Provide two letters of reference in regard to your ability, integrity and character as exemplified in your service as a school business official
- one from your current employer, and
- one from another ASBOA Regular Member from another school authority or a CSBO member
Background Declaration:
An applicant will also be asked to respond to the following questions in support that the applicant is of good character and reputation on the online application form.
While registered as a member of any professional regulatory organization have you:

Ever had a finding of unprofessional conduct or similar disciplinary finding made against you? YES/NO

Have you ever entered into an agreement with the professional organization regarding your conduct? YES/NO

Any outstanding or ongoing complaints or discipline matters? YES/NO

Ever been involuntarily removed from the register of a professional regulatory organization? YES/NO

Ever been investigated or charged for a criminal offense and/or for acts committed against a minor? YES/NO
Please note that if you answered yes to any of the questions below, the Registration committee will follow up with the applicant for additional details and/or documents.
Is there any additional information that you would like to share with the Registration Committee in support and/or in consideration of your eligibility that may have an impact on your application?
(iii) Education Requirements - Section 8(1)(a)(iii)
An applicant must hold a recognized degree, diploma, or equivalent designation at the post secondary level in a program of study relevant to the administration of school business. Please check all that apply and provide copies of your supporting documentation with your application.
An applicant must meet any one of the following:
(a) diploma or degree in Business Administration; or
(b) has acquired a CPA or is eligible to write the CPA AB Entrance Exam; or
(c) has acquired the Local Government Certificate prior to 2004; or
(d) completed a program of studies equivalent to (a), (b), or (c).

(iv) Experience - Section 8 (1)(a)(iv)
An applicant must have a minimum of 3 years experience in the practice of School Administration in Canada that is satisfactory to the Registration Committee.

(v) Completion of School Law and School Administration - Section 8(1)(v)
An applicant must have successfully completed a school law (24 hours minimum) and school administration (24 hours minimum) course recognized by the Executive. The requirements for School Law and School Administration can be achieved through specific programs, or through a combination of professional learning opportunities.
School Law - 24 Hours of instruction

Introduction to Education Law (ASBOA) Level 1; or
-
Combination of programs/professional learning opportunities within the past 5 years, that provide a minimum of 24 hours of instruction in at least 4 Areas of Practice; or
-
Other (i.e.; MBA, a program of studies offered by accredited institution that can be measured against the Areas of Practice)
School Administration - 24 Hours of Instruction
-
SFO Designation (ASBO International) ; or
- Combination of programs/professional learning opportunities within the past 5 years, that provide a minimum of 24 hours of instruction in at least 6 Areas of Practice; or
-
Other (i.e.; MBA, a program of studies offered by accredited institution that can be measured against the Areas of Practice)
The Executive also recognizes the contributions of members in their service on the provincial executive and on specialized committees. The work that is undertaken at the provincial executive level and through specialized committees provide a valuable learning experience and opportunity to expand an individuals knowledge and experience across multiple areas in the profession. The Executive may approve up to 6 hrs towards School Administration that can be used as part of the combined programs/professional learning.

By applying for registration, the applicant consents to the collection, use or disclosure of information as set out in the ASBOA privacy policy, legislative authorities and other governing documents.

I will abide by the provisions of POARA and with the Regulation, Bylaws, and Code of Ethics of ASBOA, and

I agree that if registered as a certified member I will be governed by the said Act and by the Regulation, Bylaws and Rules enacted and to be made and enacted by ASBOA, and

I agree that if registered as a certified member that I will comply with the continuing education requirements for annual renewal as set out in the Regulation and Association guidelines, and

On approval of this application, I agree to maintain custody of the membership certificate issued to me and will promptly return it in the event that my registration is suspended or cancelled, and
-
I consent and shall be deemed to have consented to any notification, publication or release of information in accordance with the Act, Regulation, By-laws and ASBOA privacy policy.
I authorize the Registration Committee to obtain such information concerning my education, training, experience and membership status as may be required to determine my eligibility for certification in ASBOA. I understand that the Registration committee may request additional information from me.
Application Fee
There is an application fee of $150.00 +GST. The application fee is payable on submission of the completed application.
Application Submission
The online application form can be located on the individual member dashboard. Please ensure that all supporting documentation is in a PDF format for ease of uploading during the application process. Incomplete applications or a failure to pay the application fee may result in the form being returned to the applicant for follow up and may delay a timely decision by the Registration committee.
