Job Description & Requirements
 
The Sturgeon Public School Division is currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to join the team at their Central Office located in Morinville, AB, just minutes north of St. Albert.
 
Reporting to the Director of Financial Services, the Payroll Specialist will maintain the payroll service of the school division and administer employee benefits and pension information.
 
FTE: 1.0 FTE; 35 hrs/week; 12 months a year; permanent
 
Responsibilities:  Duties include but not limited to:
  • Administration of division payroll and employee inquiries
  • Administration of benefit programs and payroll-related aspects of collective agreements and other employment conditions
  • Preparation and transmission of reports to external agencies and employees
  • Coordination between payroll and human resources to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data
  • Monthly payroll analysis and variance reporting
  • Monthly reconciliations of payroll accounts and preparation of journal entries
  • Monthly verification of all payruns
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budget relating to salaries and benefits
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end working papers
  • Provide support and other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Services
 
Qualifications and Attributes:
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification is a must
  • More than 2 years working experience in payroll is required
  • School Division experience is an asset
  • Experience with AtrieveERP is desirable
  • Thorough knowledge of payroll policies, practices and applicable legislation
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize work effectively and timely
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Current Pay Range: $53,786 - $64,769 yearly salary.  Benefits and Pension as per the General Employment Conditions.
